Forensic geology and forensic course offerings Dr. Reid has a special interest in the application of geology and the geological sciences to solving crimes and the law. Currently he has co-taught forensic geology (MEA 433) at the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences North Carolina State University. He is offered a general forensic sciences graduate seminar course in the Second Summer Session 2005 through the Multidisciplinary Program (MLS) at North Carolina State University. Please contact me about additional information for these courses. Previously Dr. Reid has taught geographic information system (GIS) classes at MEAS. About Dr. Reid Dr. Reid owns a privately held consultancy whose focus is industrial minerals and forensic geology. He has conducted petrographic and mineral processing studies on industrial mineral deposits worldwide. He is President of ForensicGeology, Inc. (FGI). ForensicGeology, Inc. assists judges, attorneys, police to evaluate forensic geological evidence and conducts forensic geological investigations of earth materials, and. makes customized crime pattern maps to evaluate crime patterns. Dr. Reid is a Senior Geologist at the North Carolina Geological Survey (NCGS). His responsibilities include natural gas and minerals research, geochemistry and health applications, geographic information systems (GIS), and the topographic mapping program in North Carolina. His current focus is natural gas resource potential of North Carolina's Mesoic rift basins. Previously his focus wasgeologic hazards (sink holes / karst, abandoned mines, earthquakes, landslides and dams). He contributed extensivley to the National Geologic Map Database and the National Geologic Map Image Library. He is a Fellow in the Geological Society of America and a member of a number of professional geological organizations and societies. He is a licensed professional geologist in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. He also holds a Geologist's Corporate Certificate of Registration in North Carolina. Reid is a Certified Professional Geologist (American Institute of Professional Geologists) and a Certified Professional Manager. At North Carolina State University (NCSU) Reid is an Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at NCSU, Raleigh, NC. He is also an Adjunct Associate Member of the graduate faculty at North Carolina State University. Dr. Reid may serve on graduate student committees at MEAS. Previous student thesis projects involve landslides and mass wasting in western North Carolina. These projects aid the overall geological hazards program at the North Carolina Geological Survey. Prospective graduate students are asked to contact Dr. Reid about potential projects involving applied geology in North Carolina. He generally has a summer undergraduate internship available to assist with current research.
